II. A.A.R. Grading System
Considering different criteria of A.A.R grading, we concluded that the content of oleoresin (% of oleoresin in A.A.R.) is the most objective way to grade A.A.R.
Most A.A.R. sold by Chimhyanghun are either green or dark green A.A.R. Although the fragrance between the two is clearly different, both have great fragrance when they are burned. In addition, there is no difference of their medical potency.
In our company's A.A.R. Grading System, A.A.R. whose grade above Level 1 can sink into water. Higher grade means more percentage of A.A.R. oleoresin. Superior Grade contains 60~80% of oleoresin. Entry level A.A.R. are either half-sinking or floating on water.
Because of its precious nature, Kanam usually has separate grading system to distinguish itself from common A.A.R. Only A.A.R. whose shreds that can be pinched and rolled into a ball is identified as Kanam.
As mentioned in Introduction Page, our company, in each grading, provides both A.A.R. and Kanam in different forms- chips, larger pieces, powder, and natural carvings.
In addition, the size and shape of A.A.R. also effect the value of A.A.R. Given similar content of resin, bigger A.A.R. is charged at a much higher price in the market due to its scarcity. A.A.R. with special shapes, the natural carving, is regarded as natural arts. Please refer pictures of A.A.R. natural carvings in Pictures page of this web site.
